Terms of Service
Effective Date: July 27, 2026
Welcome to Corkboard, operated by Corkboard Group Inc. (“we,” “us,” “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website, mobile application, and all related services (collectively, the “Platform”). By creating an account, accessing, or using the Platform in any way, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Platform.
Independent Contractor Relationship
Corkboard is a platform that connects users for the purpose of finding and offering local work. We are not an employer. Workers who use Corkboard to find or perform work are independent contractors, not employees of Corkboard. This means:
- You are responsible for paying your own taxes on any income earned through the platform.
- You are responsible for tracking your own earnings — Corkboard takes no cut, processes no payments, and does not report earnings to any tax authority.
- You are responsible for your own insurance, including liability and workers compensation if applicable to your work.
- You are responsible for complying with all laws and regulations that apply to your work in your jurisdiction (licensing, permits, safety, etc.).
- Corkboard provides no insurance coverage, no workers compensation, no benefits, and no employment protections.
By using Corkboard as a worker or business posting jobs, you acknowledge and accept these responsibilities.
1. About the Platform
Corkboard is a local gig marketplace that connects individuals or businesses seeking services (“Clients” or “Posters”) with individuals seeking work opportunities (“Workers”). The Platform enables users to post jobs, browse opportunities, submit applications, communicate via in-app messaging, and leave reviews.
Important: Corkboard acts solely as a technology facilitator. We are not an employer, staffing agency, labor broker, or contractor. We do not:
- Employ, supervise, direct, or control Workers
- Act as a party to any agreement between Clients and Workers
- Guarantee the quality, safety, legality, or completion of any work
- Verify the qualifications, certifications, licenses, or insurance of any user
- Process payments between Clients and Workers (all payment arrangements are made directly between users)
Any employment, independent contractor, or service relationship exists solely between the Client and the Worker. You acknowledge that Corkboard bears no liability for the actions, omissions, or conduct of any user.
Service availability: Corkboard is currently offered in Canada excluding Quebec. We do not currently offer our services to residents of Quebec.
2. Eligibility
To create an account and use the Platform, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age, or the minimum legal working age in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater
- Have the legal capacity to enter into binding agreements
- Not have been previously banned or removed from the Platform
- Comply with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws and regulations
By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet all eligibility requirements. We reserve the right to request proof of age or identity at any time.
3. User Accounts
To access most features of the Platform, you must create an account by providing a username, password, display name, and optionally an email address.
You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep it updated
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of your login credentials
- Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account
- Immediately notify us if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
- Not create more than one account per person, or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent
We reserve the right to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate any account that contains false or misleading information, violates these Terms, or is used in a manner that we determine to be harmful to the Platform or other users.
4. Subscription Plans and Fees
The Platform offers three subscription tiers:
Free Tier
- Limited to 2 job applications per day
- Can post gigs, browse, message, and submit reviews of providers they have worked with
- Reviews submitted by Free-tier users are accepted and stored — they display publicly only when the reviewee is on the Premium tier
- Reviews about a Free-tier or Business-tier user are not displayed publicly on that user’s profile (reviews are a Premium feature — see Premium below)
Premium Tier ($15/month or $150/year — 2 months free)
- Unlimited job applications
- Eligible to submit price offers on posted gigs (subject to a per-hour rate limit)
- Ad-free experience
- Gold profile badge indicating Premium status
- Reviews and reputation are displayed publicly on the profile — this is the only tier on which public review display is enabled
- Access to personal analytics (profile views, application stats)
- Eligible to list and promote person-for-hire services in the Services section (individuals only)
Business Tier ($50/month or $500/year — 2 months free)
- All Premium features EXCEPT public review display (reviews are a Premium-individual feature — Business accounts represent companies and do not have a public reviews surface)
- Blue Business badge
- Enhanced profile visibility with business-styled display name
- Customizable profile sections (services, work gallery, certifications, experience)
- Business contact information display (business name, phone, website)
- Business accounts represent companies and are not permitted to create listings in the Services section (Services is the person-for-hire lane for Premium individuals)
How Subscriptions Are Purchased
- Paid subscriptions are purchased through your app store account (the Apple App Store or Google Play); the store processes the payment and holds the billing method, and Corkboard does not collect or store your card details
- Corkboard charges no activation, signup, or resignup fee — nothing is payable to Corkboard upfront on a first subscription, on a fresh subscription, or on a restored one
- The only cost-control measure that applies to cancelling and resubscribing is the one-restore-per-12-month limit described below; it costs nothing and limits only how often a cancelled profile can be brought back
Billing and Renewal
- Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) from the date of initial purchase
- Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date
- Subscription fees are charged in advance for each billing period
- Prices are subject to change; we will notify you of any price changes before your next renewal
Cancellation and Restore
- You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Platform or your app store account settings
- Upon cancellation, your profile, reviews, and reputation are immediately hidden from every other user; existing customers cannot view or contact you, and you cannot contact other users
- You retain access to your own profile and your own review history during the cancellation period (cancellation does not delete your account — it hides it)
- You have 90 days from cancellation to resubscribe and have your profile, reviews, and reputation restored to their prior state
- After the 90-day restore window passes, your public profile and reviews are permanently removed and a future subscription is treated as a fresh signup — your previous profile and reviews do not come back, and no fee applies
- You may use one restore per rolling 12-month window; a second cancellation inside that window is treated as a permanent removal of the public-facing profile and reviews (the underlying account row is retained for audit and abuse-prevention purposes)
- No partial refunds will be issued for unused portions of a billing period
Promotional Codes
- Promotional codes may be issued at our discretion and grant temporary access to Premium or Business features
- Promo codes are limited to one use per account and may have expiration dates or usage limits
- Promo codes cannot be combined, transferred, sold, or exchanged for cash
- We reserve the right to revoke promotional access at any time for misuse or fraud
5. Jobs, Payments, and Taxes
The Platform facilitates connections between Clients and Workers. Regarding jobs and compensation:
- Clients and Workers are solely responsible for negotiating and agreeing upon job terms, scope of work, timelines, compensation, and payment methods
- Corkboard may display price information (flat rate or hourly) set by the Client, or enable a “Request Quotes” feature where Workers can propose their own pricing
- Corkboard does not process, hold, facilitate, or guarantee any payments between users
- Users are solely responsible for reporting income, paying all applicable taxes (including income tax, self-employment tax, and sales tax), and meeting all legal and regulatory obligations related to their work
- Corkboard does not issue tax forms (such as 1099s or W-2s) to users
6. User Conduct and Prohibited Activities
You agree to use the Platform only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:
- Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information in your profile, gig postings, applications, or communications
- Post or solicit illegal services, controlled substances, weapons, or any activity that violates applicable law
- Harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, or discriminate against any user based on race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic
- Send spam, unsolicited advertising, or promotional content through the messaging system
- Attempt to circumvent platform fees, systems, rate limits, or security measures
- Create fake accounts, impersonate other users, or misrepresent your identity or qualifications
- Collect, scrape, or harvest user data or personal information from the Platform
- Interfere with or disrupt the Platform’s functionality, servers, or networks
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Platform
- Use the Platform to facilitate transactions outside the Platform in order to avoid fees or accountability
- Upload content that infringes intellectual property rights, contains malware, or is obscene or defamatory
Violation of these rules may result in content removal, account warnings, temporary suspension, permanent ban, and/or reporting to law enforcement as appropriate.
7. Content Moderation and AI Screening
To maintain a safe and trustworthy community, we employ a multi-layered content moderation system:
Automated AI Screening
- Gig postings, profile edits, and messages may be automatically screened by artificial intelligence (AI) systems to detect potentially harmful content
- AI screening checks for categories including illegal activity, harassment, scams, spam, discrimination, and inappropriate content
- Content that is flagged by AI may be immediately removed, held for human review, or allowed with a flag for monitoring
- AI screening is not perfect and may occasionally flag legitimate content or miss harmful content
Trust Score System
- Each user has a trust score that reflects their behavior and compliance with platform rules
- Violations of these Terms may result in trust score reductions, which can limit certain features (such as daily posting limits)
- Users with consistently low trust scores may be subject to additional restrictions or account action
Graduated Enforcement
- Warnings: For minor or first-time violations
- Temporary Suspension: For repeated or moderate violations, with a defined suspension period
- Permanent Ban: For severe violations, persistent abuse, or trust score reaching zero
Appeals
- Users may appeal moderation actions through the Account Standing section in Settings
- Appeals are reviewed by platform administrators, and decisions are communicated through the Platform
- We reserve the right to make final decisions on all moderation matters
You acknowledge and consent to automated screening of content you post on the Platform. While we strive for accuracy, automated systems may make errors, and human review may not always be available immediately.
8. User-Generated Content
By posting content on the Platform (including gig descriptions, profile information, reviews, messages, and photos), you:
- Retain ownership of your original content
- Grant Corkboard a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable license to use, display, reproduce, modify, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Platform
- Represent and warrant that you have the right to post such content and that it does not violate any third party’s rights
- Acknowledge that content may be viewed by other users and, in some cases, by the general public
We do not endorse, verify, or guarantee the accuracy of any user-generated content. We reserve the right to remove any content at our sole discretion.
9. Reviews and Ratings
The Platform allows Clients and Workers to leave reviews and ratings for each other after a gig is completed.
- Reviews must be honest, accurate, and based on genuine experiences
- You may not post fake reviews, exchange reviews for compensation, or retaliate against users who leave honest feedback
- We reserve the right to remove reviews that violate these Terms or our content guidelines
- Reviews and ratings are visible to other users and factor into a user’s overall reputation on the Platform
10. No Background Checks or Guarantees
Corkboard does not conduct background checks, verify identities, confirm qualifications, or validate any user’s claims. Any trust scores, badges, or verification indicators displayed on the Platform are based solely on platform activity and do not constitute an endorsement, guarantee, or certification of any user.
You acknowledge that you interact with other users at your own risk. You are solely responsible for conducting your own due diligence before hiring a Worker or accepting a job.
11. Push Notifications and Communications
By using the Platform, you may receive:
- Push notifications about new messages, application updates, and gig activity
- Platform announcements and service updates
- Promotional content and tips (if you opt in to promotional notifications)
You may manage your notification preferences at any time through Settings in the app. You can disable push notifications through your device settings. Disabling notifications may cause you to miss important updates about your gigs or applications.
12. Disputes Between Users
Any dispute, disagreement, or claim arising between Clients and Workers regarding the scope, quality, timing, or payment for work must be resolved directly between the parties involved.
- Corkboard is not a party to any agreement between users and has no obligation to mediate, arbitrate, or resolve disputes
- We may, at our sole discretion, provide limited assistance or information to help resolve disputes, but we are under no obligation to do so
- Users may report other users for policy violations through the Platform’s reporting system, which may result in moderation action but does not constitute dispute resolution
Disputes with Corkboard. Before bringing a claim against us, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] and try to resolve it informally for 30 days. Nothing in these Terms requires you to arbitrate or limits your right to participate in a class proceeding.
13. Intellectual Property
The Platform, including its design, logos, trademarks, text, graphics, software, and all other content created by Corkboard (excluding user-generated content), is the exclusive property of Corkboard and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
- You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Platform without our prior written consent
- You may not use the Corkboard name, logo, or branding in any manner that suggests endorsement or affiliation without our prior written approval
- All feedback, suggestions, or ideas submitted to us become our property and may be used without compensation or attribution
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CORKBOARD AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Loss of income, profits, or business opportunities
- Property damage or loss
- Personal injury arising from interactions with other users
- Job dissatisfaction, poor work quality, or unfulfilled expectations
- Delays, cancellations, no-shows, or non-payment by other users
- Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in user-generated content
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
- Any conduct of third parties on the Platform
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID TO CORKBOARD IN SUBSCRIPTION FEES IN THE SIX (6) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY, OR FIFTY DOLLARS ($50), WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Corkboard, its owners, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of or access to the Platform
- Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law or regulation
- Your interactions, agreements, or disputes with other users
- Content you post, upload, or transmit through the Platform
- Your negligence or willful misconduct
- Any claim that your content infringes a third party’s rights
16. Account Suspension and Termination
We reserve the right to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate your access to the Platform at any time, with or without prior notice, for any reason, including but not limited to:
- Violation of these Terms or our content guidelines
- Fraudulent, abusive, or harmful behavior
- Failure to maintain a satisfactory trust score
- Receipt of multiple reports or complaints from other users
- Extended inactivity
- Legal or regulatory requirements
Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately. You may request deletion of your account and personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.
17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any non-waivable rights you have under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (British Columbia) or other applicable consumer-protection law, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Platform will be resolved exclusively by the courts of British Columbia, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its original intent.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any consumer right or remedy you have under applicable law (including the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (British Columbia)) that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where a term is unenforceable against you as a consumer, it applies to the maximum extent permitted.
19. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other policies referenced herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and Corkboard regarding your use of the Platform. These Terms supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and representations relating to the Platform.
20. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements, or business practices. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page
- Notify you through the Platform or via email (if provided)
- For significant changes, we may require you to re-accept the updated Terms
Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you must stop using the Platform and delete your account.
21. Assumption of Risk & Release
You use the Platform and interact with other users at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release Corkboard Group Inc. and its owners, officers, and agents from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising out of (a) your interactions or communications with other users, (b) any meeting, service, or work arranged through the Platform, including in person, and (c) any injury, property damage, or loss caused by another user. You are solely responsible for taking reasonable safety precautions.
22. Mobile Application & App Store Terms
If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, you also agree to that store’s terms. For Apple: this agreement is between you and Corkboard Group Inc. only, not Apple; Apple is not responsible for the app or its content; Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support; Apple is not responsible for any product warranties, claims of non-conformity, product-liability, or third-party intellectual-property claims relating to the app; and you represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on any U.S. prohibited-party list. You must comply with applicable third-party terms (e.g., your wireless data plan). Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
23. General
- Assignment. Corkboard may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, at any time without notice; you may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, labor disputes, governmental action, or failures of networks or infrastructure.
- Survival. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including limitation of liability, indemnification, intellectual property, assumption of risk, and these general terms — survive termination of these Terms or your account.
- Notices. We may provide notices to you through the Platform, by email (if provided), or by posting on our website; you may contact us at [email protected].
- Electronic communications. You consent to receive communications from us electronically, and you agree that electronic agreements, notices, disclosures, and other communications satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
